Patriot Bank of Millington has made a second gift of $25,000 to the University of
Memphis’ Millington Center.
Patriot Bank’s initial gift was made in 2004.
The Millington Center, which currently enrolls 820 students, offers undergraduate
and graduate courses ranging from business administration to education.
“Patriot Bank is excited about continuing our partnership with the U of M in its endeavor
to provide higher education opportunities for the Millington area,” said Charles Ennis,
chairman and CEO of Patriot Bank. “We look forward to this ongoing relationship in
which both Patriot Bank and the University of Memphis can continue to grow together
to help our community.”
Sam Cox, U of M director of business development, expressed the University’s appreciation
for the bank’s continued support. “We are elated to have Patriot Bank as an educational
partner at the University of Memphis Millington Center,” said Cox. “Their gifts have
been and will continue to be used to support, promote, and foster our efforts in Millington
and its surrounding communities.”
The Millington Center occupies 53,000 square feet in two buildings. The ground floor
of the former Navy Hospital houses 26 classrooms, including two computer labs, four
private study rooms, a long-distance learning room, as well as three rooms that can
be combined to create a 100-seat lecture area. There is also office space for administrators
and graduate students. Willis Hall houses 10 classrooms and two computer labs.
The U of M assumed control of the 38 acres of former U.S. Navy property in December
2002. Since then, the University has invested $5 million in renovating the facilities
for educational purposes.
In a future third phase, the University will renovate the former hospital’s upper
floors for use as classrooms and research facilities.
