The University of Memphis team of advertising students in the Department of Journalism won second place in the Seventh District National Student Advertising Competition sponsored by the American Advertising Federation. The group followed first place winner LSU and trumped challengers from the University of Alabama and Loyola University in New Orleans. They developed an integrated communication campaign, which was presented to the client in front of a panel of judges.
 Led by journalism faculty member Dr. Sandra Utt, the team included, front row left to right, Jesse Jacks, Megan Morris, Amanda Lott, Jen Lee, and Malorie Bridger, and back row left to right, Zach Ryles, Terita Hudson, Michael Knight, Ben Nicols, and Jay Kalkbrenner. Not pictured are team members Richard Collins, Wendy Walker, and Jerad McFarlin, and Dr. Utt.
