Paul Speer will take his audience on a musical and visual journey through Italy beginning at noon on Wednesday, June 11, at the University of Memphis. “Oculus: Impressions of Italy” will be presented in the Ned R. McWherter Library, Room 226. The event is free and open to the public.

Speer is a Grammy-nominated musician and video artist. He will screen several pieces from his most recent CD/DVD, Oculus, and discuss its creation. Oculus was inspired by Speer’s travels in Italy. Among the featured locations are Rome, Florence, the Italian Riviera, Tuscany, and Sicily. Shot in cinéma vérité style, Oculus pays homage to the beauty and history of Italy.

Speer is one of the architects of the multi-platinum-selling video albums Natural States and Desert Vision. He has had a long and diverse career as both an artist and record producer.

The event is sponsored by the University Libraries and Friends of the University Libraries. For more information, call 901-678-4310 or 901-678-2209.
