To promote the concept of unity among libraries throughout Tennessee, the University
of Memphis will host the “We Are One!” library conference, expo, and concert on Friday,
June 12.
Participating libraries include the U of M’s Ned McWherter Library and the local libraries
of Southwest Tennessee Community College, the University of Tennessee Health Science
Center, Rhodes College, Christian Brothers University, Lemoyne-Owen College, and the
Memphis-Shelby County Public Library; Jackson State Community College of Jackson;
Tennessee State University of Nashville; Middle Tennessee State University of Murfreesboro;
and East Tennessee State University of Johnson City.
The public is invited to attend all three events. The schedule includes:
Circulation Conference, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., McWherter Library – discussion of trends and techniques in customer
service, safety, technology, and more. Registration is closed for this event and no walk-ins can be accommodated. Thank you for your interest and please see below for more events.
Expo, 2-5:30 p.m., Rose Theatre lobby – displays from participating libraries, including
information on special collections, virtual library tours, and use of technology;
an exhibit of photographs by Dr. LaSimba Gray, pastor and political activist; and
an exhibit from Chucalissa Archaeological Museum.
Concert, 6-8 p.m., Rose Theatre – participants include Antioch Baptist Church, the Liturgical
Dancers of Antioch Baptist, Melrose High School, the Memphis Academy of Science and
Engineering, Middle Baptist Church-Whitehaven, Monumental Baptist Church, Pam Amur
& Workshop, soloists Calvin Campbell and Calvin Rayborne, and Joyce Henderson.
Tickets are $10 and are on sale until June 11 at the McWherter Library circulation
desk Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tickets also may be purchased by check, made out to the University of Memphis and
mailed to James E. Hudson, 126 Ned R. McWherter Library, University of Memphis, Memphis,
Tenn., 38152-3250.
Proceeds will benefit the University Libraries.
