St. Anna Author James McBride Will Speak Nov. 10 at the U of MFor release: October 23, 2008 For press information, contact Gabrielle Maxey, 901/678-2843 Bestselling author James McBride will be the guest of the River City Writers Series at the University of Memphis on Monday, Nov. 10. He will give a free public reading of his work at 7 p.m. in the Michael D. Rose Theatre.
McBride’s novel, Miracle at St. Anna, was made into a movie of the same name by director/producer Spike Lee. It was released last month. McBride is also the author of the memoir, The Color of Water, and another novel, Song Yet Sung. He has written for numerous publications, including The Washington Post, Rolling Stone and The New York Times. He also is an accomplished jazz musician. The River City Writers Series is sponsored by the U of M English Department, the Creative Writing Club, Sigma Tau Delta, the Student Activities Council, Academic Enrichment Funds, Public Service Funds, the Hohenberg Foundation, Deborah Talbot, and Friends of the University Libraries.
