Dan Murrell, director of planned giving for the University of Memphis, has been named
Outstanding Fundraising Executive by the Memphis chapter of the Association of Fundraising
Professionals (AFP).
Murrell has more than 11 years of fundraising experience. Before joining the U of
M this year, he served as director of development for the Community Foundation of
Memphis. He also helped build the development program at Trezevant Manor, where he
raised millions of dollars to expand its facilities and improve services for residents.
Murrell has been an active member of the AFP since 1996. He has served in numerous
positions on its board of directors, including chapter president in 2005.
“In our work as professional fundraisers, we are proactive and compelling ambassadors
for our organizations,” said Virginia Stallworth, current AFP chapter president. “Dan
is dedicated to doing that and more. He serves as an ambassador for the fundraising
profession and the nonprofit sector.”
A graduate of Millsaps College, Murrell received a master’s degree from the University
of Memphis. He also earned the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation.
Murrell will be recognized at the AFP’s annual Crystal Awards luncheon on Nov. 13.
