The River City Writers Series at the University of Memphis is thrilled to announce
its spectacular fall 2008 line-up: With an award winning poet, the bestselling food
writer and journalist, and the author of a book just released as a Spike Lee film,
you won’t want to miss any of these events. All the readings will feature receptions
with food and beverages before each event. As always, River City Writers Series events
are free and open to the public. Our author line-up this year:
Ellen Bryant Voigt is the author of several collections of poetry including Shadow of Heaven, which was a finalist for the National Book Award, and Kyrie, a finalist for the National Book Critic’s circle award. She has received numerous
grants and awards, including a Pushcart Prize. She served as the Vermont State Poet
from 1999 to 2003.

Trevor Corson is the bestselling author of The Secret Life of Lobsters- named best nature book of the year by USA Today and Discover- and The Story of Sushi: An Unlikely Saga of Raw Fish and Rice. He has written for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Atlantic Monthly, among others. Corson and his work have been featured on numerous television and
radio programs, including CBS Sunday Morning and Iron Chef.

James McBride is the bestselling author of the memoir The Color of Water. He is the author of several novels, including Song Yet Sung and Miracle at St. Anna, which was released as a Spike Lee film in September 2008. He has written for numerous
publications, including The Washington Post, Rolling Stone, and The New York Times. He is also an accomplished jazz musician.
