The University of Memphis has named Maria Alam as its Human Resources assistant vice
president/chief human resources officer.
Alam has more than 25 years of experience in human resource management in higher education.
Before joining the U of M, she was associate vice president of Human Resources operations
at George Washington University and assistant vice president of Human Resources at
Florida International University.
She holds a master’s degree in human resource development and a bachelor’s degree
in business administration, both from Florida International. She has been actively
involved in many professional organizations, including the Society for Human Resources
Management (SHRM) and the College and University Professional Association for Human
Alam has been recognized for excellence in human resources management and practices
at George Washington and Florida International, and by the CUPA-HR. She is listed
in the Cambridge Who’s Who Registry of Executives and Professionals as an individual of distinction who is influential within the HR industry.
