The University of Memphis is seeking nominations for its honorary degree award, given to distinguished individuals who merit special recognition for their extraordinary achievements that have improved the community, contributed to society, and benefited the University. A nominee’s career should reflect sustained, exceptional achievement in a profession or in some field of scholarship, research, public service, arts and letters, government, finance, leadership, cultural affairs, or other endeavor. Guidelines for awarding the honorary degree are available online at: http://policies.memphis.edu/UM1648.htm Nominations should be mailed to: Honorary Degree Committee, Office of the Provost, 360 Administration Building, University of Memphis, Memphis, Tennessee, 38152. The deadline for nominations is Nov. 21. Past recipients of the honorary degree include Dr. W. Harry Feinstone, a noted pharmaceutical researcher; Rudi E. Scheidt, philanthropist and retired cotton industry executive; and Frederick W. Smith, chairman, president and CEO of FedEx Corporation.
