Robert Root

Root is an authority on the genre of creative nonfiction, having written The Fourth Genre: Contemporary Writers of/on Creative Nonfiction, Landscapes With Figures: The Nonfiction of Place, and The Nonfictionist’s Guide: On Reading and Writing Creative Nonfiction. His most recent book is Following Isabella: Travels in Colorado Then and Now. His other works include Recovering Ruth: A Biographer’s Tale and E. B. White: The Emergence of an Essayist.

Root currently is the interview/roundtable editor for Fourth Genre: Explorations in Nonfiction, one of the first journals devoted exclusively to literary nonfiction. He discusses creative nonfiction at creative writing and English education conferences, and has been a visiting writer and speaker in writing programs at colleges and universities around the country.
