Length and Formatting: 1500 word maximum (about 5 pages), double-spaced, 1-inch margins, standard font, 11 or 12-point.

Essays should be preceded by a cover page which includes: the title of essay, your name, your anticipated year of graduation, your School or College, your preferred contact information (phone or email).

To be eligible for the essay contest you must be registered as an undergraduate student at University of Memphis in the Spring 2012 semester.

Essays must be single-author and adhere to the University of Memphis Code of Academic Integrity.

Essays need not include outside sources. However, if you do reference any sources, including those found on the internet, you must cite them according to the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (7th ed.) and include a Works Cited page at the conclusion of your essay (bibliographic information will not be included in word count).
