Student success is one of the primary strategic goals of the University of Memphis. One important measure of that success is the rate at which admitted students successfully
make the transition to academic life at the college level and continue their studies
on the way to degree attainment. Retention rates typically place special emphasis on the rate at which first-time,
full-time freshmen students continue their studies on until the second year, but at
the University of Memphis we measure and support student retention for all entering
students, whether freshmen or transfer, full- or part-time, and at each stage along
the way to graduation.
The sites listed on these pages provide an overview of some of the key initiatives
undertaken by offices in several division of the University of Memphis to allow us
to continue the success we have recently had in improving retention and graduation
rates at the University of Memphis.
The Retention Steering Committee is focused on the following initiatives for the 2011-2012
year:
• Implementation of UM Degree/Degree Compass
