Today we worked on addressing the streamer depth. Unbeknownst to us, it has been towing deeper than desired. At its maximum, the streamer was falling 20+ ft below the water surface. In some areas of the river, that’s dragging the bottom. Our greatest concern when it is towing that deep is that it may get caught on a submerged
tree or other obstacle. This is what likely happened last year (not knowing towing depths) and the streamer
became irrevocably snagged and lost.
So today we added floatation to the streamer along its length and added two additional
transducers to where we had a transducer at the tail, middle and head of the streamer. It would not be until evening when we pull the streamer in and retrieve the transducers
that we’ll know if we were successful with out floatation.
The remainder of the day went well.
