The University of Memphis is committed to providing equal opportunity and challenge
to all academically qualified students with disabilities and is compliant with Section
504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Students with disabilities are integrated into the regular academic curriculum and
are held to the same academic standards as other students. Comprehensive support services
and accommodations are available to enable students to meet required academic standards
and to encourage them to participate fully in the educational, social, and cultural
opportunities available at the University, including extracurricular activities.
Student Disability Services serves from 700 to 800 students per year who have a variety
of disabilities, including mobility, visual and hearing impairments, a variety of
chronic health disorders, psychiatric disorders, learning disabilities, attention
deficit/hyperactivity disorder, seizure disorders, traumatic brain injury, and substance
abuse.
To receive disability related accommodations and services, students must first register
with Student Disability Services and provide current and appropriate medical and/or
psycho-educational documentation which identifies the specific nature and extent of
a qualifying disability, including the functional limitations currently imposed by
the disability.
