  • Annual Elections:
Each Spring, the SGA elections are held to elect the Student Body President, Student Body Vice President, and Senators. All candidates must meet the qualifications outlined in the Election Rules, which are available in the SGA office. Notices will appear in The Daily Helmsman about the impending elections.
  • Incoming Freshmen:
The Freshman Council will accept applications in the Fall, and the screening process as well is coordinated by the Office of the President. These application processes will also be publicized in The Daily Helmsman.
  • Vacant Senate Seats:
The Student Government Association continually accept applications for seats not filled during regular election and seats that become vacant within the school year. All applicants are screened, and appointments are made by the Office of the President.
  • Cabinet and Committee Positions:
In addition, the President will also appoint students as members of various University committees that are coordinated with the Office of Student Affairs and to the President's Cabinet. All information concerning the process by which to get involved can be obtained in the SGA office.
  • TISL and Model U.N.:
The SGA sends delegations to Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature and the Midwest Model United Nations each year. Any UofM student is welcome to participate in these activities and most of the funding is provided by the SGA. Applications and information will be made available in September for TISL and in January for MMUN.

Why should I join Frosh Council?
The Student Government Association is the premiere organization on campus. As a diverse governing body, we try to find answers concerning everyone through working with all students, faculty and staff at the University of Memphis. We are the voices of the student body and would love for YOU to become involved in making our concerns heard.
