About Matt Butawan
Matthew Butawan is a graduate of the University of Memphis where he earned his B.S.
in systems biology. While attending the University of Memphis, Matt volunteered in
Dr. Helen Sable's Neurotoxicology Lab.
After gaining lab experience, Matt earned a NSF internship at Mote Marine Labs in Sarasota, Florida. At Mote, Matt worked closely with Dr. Catherine Walsh in the Marine Immunology Program characterizing proteins and oxidative stress biomarkers of brevetoxin exposed manatees.
Upon graduation from the UofM, Matt worked at Baptist Memorial Hospital as a medical scribe. While working in the emergency department, he became increasingly interested in preventative medicine as well as general health and wellness.
In his spare time, Matt enjoys playing soccer, ultimate frisbee, basketball, pool, yoga, and pilates.
