James D. Preston is Professor of Sociology. He received his Ph.D. from Mississippi
State University in 1967. His past research has focused on a wide variety of topics
including general deviance, juvenile delinquency and criminology, and the sociology
of the community. His current research focuses on topics pertaining to the sociology
of gambling, with specific emphasis on studying 1) the inveterate gambler and 2) the
process of the utilization of casino gambling as community development.
Dr. Preston teaches courses in Deviance, Juvenile Delinquency, and the Community.
