Mel Shipp, OD, DrPH, MPH, President of the American Public Health Association, visited
the School of Public Health in May 2012. In meeting with faculty, students, and SPH
Advisory board members, Dr. Shipp shared his views on national and global public health
concerns.
In addition to serving as APHA President, Dr. Shipp was also the founding chair of
APHA's Education Committee and has held several positions as a member of APHA's Vision
Care Section.
A nationally known expert in the field of vision care, he has served as an advisor
to a number of federal health agencies, such as the National Eye Institute and the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Dr. Shipp is currently dean of the Ohio State University College of Optometry.
