M. Paige Powell, PhD, MHA, is an Assistant Professor of Health Systems Management and Policy at the University of Memphis School of Public Health. Dr. Powell teaches in the areas of health policy and health policy analysis, health economics, health care systems, research methods, and ethics. Dr. Powell joined the faculty of the University of Memphis in August 2013. She was an Assistant Professor of Health Services Administration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 2004-2013, where she taught undergraduate health care management, and masters and doctoral students in Health Administration. She served as Director of the School of Health Professions Honors Program from 2009-2013. She oversaw undergraduates and their research projects in six different undergraduate programs and personally mentored 12 students in completing their Honors theses. In addition, Dr. Powell has worked with Masters students on national case competitions and doctoral students completing their dissertations. Dr. Powell is a noted health policy expert who frequently commented for Birmingham TV and radio news, regional papers, and national medical news websites.  Her research focuses on the impact of the insurance provisions in the Affordable Care Act on use of health care services on the general population and the impact of medication therapy management on use of health care services and health outcomes in elderly populations.  Dr. Powell earned her PhD in Health Policy and Administration from Penn State and her MHA and BPS from the University of Memphis.
