1. Called to Order 9:34 AM.
2. President’s Remarks
President announced that it is necessary to have runoff elections in four areas/clusters.
Also, there is some controversy about installing new senators.
3. Roll called.
4. Approval of the Minutes
The following changes were made to the April Minutes: Senese Duhart is excused from
the April Meeting. After discussion, President Williams, suggested that the following
statement be struck from the minutes:
President Williams informed the senate that the Executive Council and the President
has to be reconfirmed to serve on the board next year. The minutes were approved as amended.
5. Installation of Newly Elected Senators
The Senate debated the pros and cons of installing newly elected Senators at the May
17 or delaying installation until the May 31 meeting. It was agreed upon that the
installation would take place at the May 17 meeting. Any Senator absent or involved
in a runoff election will be installed at a later date. The President led the senate
in reciting the Staff Senate Pledge. Virginia Huss issued Staff Senate pins to senators.
6. President’s Remarks
President Williams highlighted some of the issues that have come before the Senate
and asked that senators give feedback to the By-laws committee.
7. Open Discussion
·It was suggested that the Senate produce something in print to disseminate information
about the Senate.
The Operation Feed campaign will run through May 30.
