June 28, 2012 Study Break Oasis and Veterans Celebration Memphis STEPS is joining with the Adult & Commuter Student Services as well as the
Veterans' Office on campus to host a celebration on June 28th in the University of
Memphis Rose Theater Lobby. This event combines a Study Break Oasis before final exams
(with plenty of goody bags and games) and a thank you to all of the veteran students
on campus!
June 15, 2012 Workshop on African-American Experiences and Coping A workshop on coping with life's challenges based on slave narratives and other lessons
from a painful past.
April 20 - 21, 2012 Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) This two-day intensive, interactive and practice-dominated training is designed to
help people recognize risk and learn how to intervene to prevent suicide.
Through group discussion, audiovisual components, lecture, Socratic questioning, large
and small group simulations, and other core training processes, participants will
be able to see, hear, and learn the information and practice the skills needed to
provide “first aid” for suicide prevention.

October 7, 2011 QPR Suicide Prevention Training A suicide prevention training program that focused on the procedure of Question, Persuade,
Refer. Those who participated received certification.
September 15-16, 2011 “Life Matters” by Playback Memphis A impromptu performance based entirely off the experiences and stories of the audience.
September 15, 2011 Feeling Blue Day STEPS brought suicide awareness and prevention to the U of M campus by handing out
material such as brochures, suicide hotline information, and suicide prevention wristbands.
In the UC STEPS hosted face painting (to paint the campus Blue) and hands-on activities
that allowed students to take a minute away from school and consider the importance
of taking care of self and others.
