Emergency Housing Resources

Students can experience situations that can foster immense hardships resulting in a need for emergency housing.  By law, the University cannot provide free housing on our campus. The following are community housing and shelters in the Memphis area:

Shelters

    • Iris Hotel
      • Provides a hotel room for one night; must be approved by owner or neighborhood watch liaison.

    • Her Faith Ministries Housing
      • Faith-based transitional housing that offers low-cost housing, food, clothing, transportation, and other assistance for women with children for 1-3 years and single women for 5 months.

      • Provides temporary lodging for single, homeless men ages 18 and older that includes meals, church services, and counseling

    • Missionaries of Charity
      • Provides emergency shelter for single women and women with children, but clients must leave the premises during the day.

    • Alpha Omega Veterans Services
      • Provides transitional and permanent supportive housing for homeless veterans with a dual diagnosis. 90-day program includes shelter, counseling, clothing, and meals. Participants can stay in a halfway house for 18 months.

    • Homeless Services Catholic Charities of West Tennessee
      • Provides supportive services for housing stability to veterans and their families, financial assistance and employment resources.

    • Calvary Rescue Mission
      • Shelter that provides breakfast and dinner, clothing, mandatory chapel services. No time limit as long as fees are paid.

      • Provides 24-hour housing crisis hotline for homeless families with children and attempts to help place families in shelters.

  • University Financial Aid One-Stop Shop
    • Financial strain can be addressed at the University with one of our financial aid employees that can complete an analysis of your financial aid package.  There may be resources you haven’t yet tapped or loans that you can take out to finance your education. Loans are available at any point in the semester and there is a listing of alternative loans on the website.
