Janice Benning Lacek 129 Theatre Communications (901)678-3188
Janice received her MFA from UC, San Diego in 1993. She joined the faculty in 2007
with teaching specialties in the areas of costume design and technology. Her professional
design credits include projects with theatre, dance, and opera companies and training
programs across the country and internationally since 1987. Highlights include the
La Jolla Playhouse, A.C.T., Syracuse Stage, San Diego Rep, the American University
of Cairo, Egypt, and the Colorado, Utah, and Oregon Shakespeare Festivals. Her design
for CSF's Richard II was included by invitation in the US entry at the prestigious
Prague Quadrennial International Exhibition of Theatre Design in 1999 .
A former resident designer (and founding company member) with Denver's Curious Theatre
Company (1999-2003), she has also previously taught costume and theatre at the University
of Colorado at Boulder and Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. Local audiences have
seen her work in recent years at Theatre Memphis, including Picasso at the Lapin Agile , for which she was nominated for an Ostrander Award. She is a member of SETC, USITT
and United Scenic Artists, Local 829.
