To successfully qualify for the BFA degree, a student must complete a minimum of 120 semester hours. Of these hours, 41 are General Education requirements, 31 are Theatre and Dance Core courses. For Performance: 42 are concentrated in your area of study and theatre electives, with 6 free electives. For Design/Tech: 48 in area of concentration. At least 42 hours must be upper division (3000 and 4000 level).

There is an internship requirement for all BFA students.

It is expected that during the students tenure at the U of M that they complete a list of competencies.

In order to continue in the program, a student must maintain an overall grade point average of 2.0. A minimum grade of C- is required in all Theatre and Dance courses applicable to the major. Any grade lower than a C- will result in the student retaking the course.
