About The Government Inspector
In one of the greatest - and funniest - classics of world theatre, the corrupt inhabitants
of a provincial Russian village mistake an insignificant civil servant for a government
inspector in disguise. In the ensuing panic, humanity is laid bare in all its vanity
and greed. With a wild combination of slapstick farce and sharp social satire, this
hilarious new adaptation by Jeffrey Hatcher gives fresh life to Gogol's comic masterpiece.
Jeffrey Hatcher’s playwriting credits include Compleat Female Stage Beauty, Three Viewings, Scotland Road, Tuesdays with Morrie, and an adaptation of the classic, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
About the cast of The Government Inspector
The Government Inspector showcases the talents of some of the University of Memphis’ brightest young actors.
Senior Standrew Parker (The Normal Heart, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) plays the title character with Jon Castro playing the corrupt major of the small Russian
province. The large cast also features Christopher Calderazzo, Drake Bailey, David
Couter, Misty O’Neill, and Kelsey Knight among many others. Third-year MFA Directing
student Michael Bolinski (Ostrander Award, Arcadia) directs.
