Experiential Learning

The University of Memphis believes that rigorous professional and/or personal development occurs in settings outside the traditional classroom and grants experiential learning credit (ELC) to students who demonstrate the academic merit of such experiences. these contexts for ELC include both formal and informal learning that results from work place training, professional organization certification, community volunteerism, and unique life experiences. Students may apply ELC toward most undergraduate degree programs granted by University College.

Students are permitted to submit a Learning Portfolio (evidence of Experiential Learning) only after acceptance to the University of Memphis and University College, successful completion of one course, and degree plan approval (baccalaureate contract or University College advising guideline).

A systematic process for evaluating and credentialing learning gained in a variety of contexts is implemented by the University. For more details, please visit the University College Experiential Learning website.
