IMPORTANT DATES & DEADLINES

PARENTS & GRADES

“Can I see my student’s grades?” No, not unless you have your student's consent or you can show that your student is still a dependent for federal income tax purposes. Federal law--the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)--prevents us from releasing a student's information to anyone but the student unless we have the student's written consent to do so.

For more information, please review Student Privacy and FERPA in the Parent Handbook.

REMIND YOUR STUDENT TO REGISTER

Registration is more than adding or dropping classes: it's a process that takes preparation as well as follow-through in order to make sure that your student gets best schedule possible with the least amount of trouble. With that in mind, review the process as outlined below.

Login and Register
Your student should register online through the myMemphis portal as early as possible for the best course selection; once they are in the portal, they can look for the Register for Classes  link on their Student page. Also:

  • Refer to the Registration Quick Guide for an overview of online registration.
  • If they encounter problems trying to register, refer to our Errors and Problems page.
  • If they need a permit to register for a particular section, refer to our Permits page.
  • Review their personal class schedule after registering for classes. Check it for accuracy. Look especially at time, days, room, and campus location.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS

Tiger Scholarship Manager is open and ready to take scholarship applications. Current students are encouraged to apply for private and departmental Scholarship Opportunities through the Tiger Scholarship Manager. Tiger Scholarship Manager provides a centralized, searchable database of all scholarship opportunities. This technology matches students to the financial resources they need to make their educational dreams a reality. They will log into Tiger Scholarship Manager to apply, and directions are provided here. The scholarship application deadline for the 2022-2023 school year (Fall 2022, Spring 2023, and Summer 2023) is February 1, 2022.

1098-T TAX FORM

1098-T tax forms are scheduled to go out from the University of Memphis during January for use in filing prior year taxes. Students can opt to receive the form online by opting in by January 15. If they do not opt in, the form will be mailed to a student's mailing address. For more information, visit the 1098-T website.

If a student's scholarship, grants and/or fee waivers equaled and/or exceeded what they were charged for tuition for the year, the University of Memphis is no longer issuing 1098-T forms to individuals in this situation, as it not required by the Internal Revenue Service. The purpose of the 1098-T form is to identify those individuals who qualify for the education credit. Only those individuals that pay an out-of-pocket tuition related expense will be able to use the 1098-T.
