Technology Resources for Student Learning at the University of Memphis

The University of Memphis offers a diverse set of learning technologies that are made available for faculty to adopt in all forms of instruction (classroom, blended, and fully online). A rigorous process has been put in place to ensure that these technologies are properly vetted for usability, affordability and appropriateness as a teaching and learning tool. The campus also ensures that proper support is made available to all Faculty, Staff and Students for their use.

eCourseware is the learning management system utilized at the University of Memphis. It is an innovative learning management system for creating, hosting and editing online learning resources. eCourseware contains a flexible suite of tools for creating custom content for institutions, courses and users.

Podcast Central is a repository for audio and other media files. These files can be uploaded to Podcast Central and your students can access the content information by using an RSS aggregator, a web browser or iTunes.

The University of Memphis offers a suite of Respondus products all designed to enhance teaching and learning through assessment. The products we have available are Respondus Quiz Making Tool, Respondus Studymate and Respondus Lockdown Browser.

Respondus Lockdown Browser

Respondus LockDown Browser™ is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within the Desire2Learn (eCourseware) platform. When students use Respondus LockDown Browser they are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. When an assessment is started, students are locked into it until they submit it for grading. Available for both Windows and Mac.

Respondus Quiz Making Tool

Respondus is a tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or imported into eCourseware courses. Exams can be created offline using a familiar Windows environment. Whether you are a veteran of online testing or relatively new to it, Respondus will save you hours on each project.

Respondus Studymate Author

StudyMate Author is a Windows-based software that allows instructors to create ten types of Flash-based activities and games using four simple templates. The Flash activities can be used with any web server or imported into eCourseware. StudyMate Author will import items from MS Word files and publisher test banks, making it easy to create interesting, interactive activities from existing content. Best of all, you don't have to know Flash programming or HTML to use StudyMate Author.

Turning Technologies: Clickers

Clickers (also known as classroom response systems) are remote type devices which students can use to respond to questions presented during a class session. The students' answers are received by the instructor's computer, processed by the pre-installed software, and results are projected to the entire class.

The University of Memphis offers a web conferencing service from Adobe Connect, locally branded as umMeet. The service allows classes/groups to meet synchronously online at the same time or in sub-groups, either way with up to 100 participants. The following features via browser (Windows/Mac) meetings are available.
