Presented to an outstanding undergraduate student with potential for leadership in
the discipline.
Outstanding Legal Research Award
Awarded to the Paralegal Services student demonstrating exceptional mastery of the
principles of legal research and writing.
Outstanding Paralegal Student Award
Presented to the student seeking a Bachelor of Professional Studies degree in Paralegal
Services demonstrating academic achievement, leadership, and dedication to the paralegal
profession and the University.
Outstanding Distance Education Award
Presented to the students demonstrating unusual commitment and scholarly endeavor
while taking courses away from the main campus.
Alma Bucovaz Urban Service Student Award
Presented to the student demonstrating excellence in an academic program addressing
urban problems and seeking to ameliorate urban needs.
Faculty Council Award
Awarded to the student who graduated with the overall highest grade point average
in the last academic year.
Academic Achievement Award
Presented to students demonstrating academic excellence and scholarly potential in
their particular baccalaureate program.
Dean's Award for Special Achievement
Awarded to the student demonstrating achievement, leadership, and determination to
complete the baccalaureate program.
Outstanding Graduate Student Award
Awarded to the graduate student in the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program demonstrating
unusual commitment and scholarly endeavor.

University College Advising Award
Awarded to a faculty member for outstanding service and dedication in advising students
in the University College graduate programs.
Alma Bucovaz Urban Service Faculty Award
Awarded to a faculty member for a commitment to the College and the solving of urban
problems through research and outreach.
Distinguished Faculty Award
Presented to a University of Memphis faculty member for demonstrating outstanding
service and dedication to the College.
Edward A. Hamilton Scholarship
This scholarship was established to honor Edward A. Hamilton who served 38 years in
the Memphis Fire Department, the last 14 of them as chief. During this period, he
led the Memphis Fire Department to a top-ranked position among fire departments in
the United States. He served as a member of the National Fire Advisory Committee,
was a member of the Technical Services Committee of the National Fire Protection Association,
and was active in annual Fire Department Instructor's Conferences. After retiring
from the Memphis Fire Department, Eddie Hamilton served as Vice-President of Guardsmark
until his death in 1984.
Firefighters and dependents of firefighters who are either incoming students or currently
enrolled at the University of Memphis and in need of financial assitance are invited
to apply for the Edward A. Hamilton Firefighter Scholarship. The scholarship will
assist with educational costs up to $1500.
A special committee will select a recipient for this scholarship each year. All applicants
will be notified of the decision. Those applicants not chosen to receive the scholarship
are allowed to reapply.
