Spotlight: Christy Poindexter
ELC gave me an opportunity to use all of my years of professional experience and previous
training towards completing my degree. Even those things that I thought were unimportant
proved to be useful in obtaining college credit. I was able to save a year's time
in school and thousands of dollars! Both my academic counselor and experiential learning
credit counselor were extremely supportive and provided useful insight into the process
and how to structure my portfolio. I was even able to meet with my ELC Counselor and
go through my portfolio information and discuss ideas on how to best present my life
experience. I would definitely encourage any working adults who are interested in
completing their degrees to give the ELC program at University of Memphis a try!

The University of Memphis makes it easy for adult learners who want to start, finish or earn a new degree. We allow you to use previously earned college credit or college-credit-worthy experiences toward your diploma, giving you an affordable way to accelerate your education and your earnings potential. If you left school in good standing — even if you attended another college or university — you can transfer your previous college credits toward a degree from the University of Memphis. With Experiential Learning Credit (ELC), you can earn up to 30 credit hours for past work, volunteer or even leisure experience. Work one-on-one with a professional advisor who will help determine which degree program is the best fit for your career goals and will then help map out a degree–completion plan. |
