The Baccalaureate Contract Program

Creating an individualized program of study is both challenging and rewarding, and is not for everyone. There are several questions you should consider before continuing:

Are you willing to undertake the rigors of creating your own program of study?
Is your proposed program of study totally different from any other undergraduate degree offered by the University of Memphis?
Does your proposed program combine courses from at least two separate and distinct disciplines?
Have you given substantial thought to how your proposed program of study will assist you in achieving your academic and career goals?

If you answered “YES” to all of the above questions, your next step is to schedule an appointment with a University College advisor, who will help you choose between the Interdisciplinary Studies (RODP) and the Professional/Liberal Studies programs. To schedule an appointment, call 901.678.2716.

Professional/Liberal Studies	Interdisciplinary Studies (RODP)
2.5 minimum GPA required for admission	No minimum GPA required for admission
Requirements: 120 credit hours with at least 42 upper-division hours 33 upper-division hours from at least two disciplines 6 credit hours of Thematic Studies 3 credit hours of Senior Project Courses must tie together into a cohesive program.	Requirements: 120 credit hours with at least 45 upper-division hours 24 upper-division hours from two distinct emphasis areas (12 hours each) 12 hours of upper-division electives related to the emphasis areas 6 credit hours of Thematic Studies 3 credit hours of Senior Project (RODP section fees apply)
Baccalaureate Contract requires approval by two faculty members representing the two disciplines in the Coordinated Study, plus approval by the University College Review Committee.	Baccalaureate Contract does not require faculty approvals, but must be approved by the University College Review Committee.
Degrees available: Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS) Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS) (Transcript reflects concentration areas)	Degree available: Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS) (Transcript reflects Interdisciplinary Studies major only; emphasis areas are not specified)
