Family and Consumer Studies

Students selecting the Family and Consumer Studies specialty area will have a background to work with the changing needs of modern-day consumers, families, and communities. Course content in this specialty includes information about child development, parenting skills, financial management, foods and nutrition, textiles, fashion, and home and work environments. With a broad background of Family and Consumer Studies, graduates may work in government and public service or business and industry where skills in planning, organizing, and conveying information are essential. Students interested in a teaching career will have completed all Family and Consumer Sciences technical knowledge and will be ready to complete Tennessee State Board of Education licensure course work.
