Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Enforcement Academy

The U.S. Fire Administration's National Fire Academy has designated the University
of Memphis as one of the institutions throughout the country to offer a bachelor's
degree with concentrations in Fire Administration and Fire Prevention Technology through
the Degrees at a Distance Program (DDP). The DDP program is an online degree program
sponsored by the National Fire Academy (NFA) which is available to fire service personnel
in Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee.
The course curriculum is developed by the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education
(FESHE) Network and is delivered completely online to accommodate working adults and
the demands of fire service personnel. The National Fire Academy and the University
College at the University of Memphis are committed to working together to provide
the benefits of higher education and to meet the needs of personnel in fire and emergency
services.
The bachelor's degree program through the University College requires that students
fulfill General Education course requirements; electives hours which can be taken
at a college near the student's residence or online through the University of Memphis;
complete seven fire core courses; six hours of Thematic Study courses; complete a
Senior Project; and, all other graduation requirements stated in the University of
Memphis Catalog.
To qualify for this program, students must have completed an associate's degree in
a fire related program, hold a certification in emergency management training, or
have training/experience through a paid or volunteer fire fighting position.
