Aspects of the Field

Paralegals should be knowledgeable of a wide range of law-related activities that
stress legal principles and procedures.

Paralegals should be skilled in the following areas: substantive aspects of the law;
investigations; research; and the drafting of various documents, including contracts,
wills, deeds, and other legal forms.

Paralegals must be able to represent their law offices to the public in a professional
manner and be able to work with clients in respectful and supportive ways.

In addition to having knowledge of, and skills in, the craft of being a legal assistant,
paralegals should have knowledge of the contexts of the law and of the ethical responsibilities
of the legal profession.
