Position Announcement
The University of Memphis invites applications and nominations for the position of
Vice President for Business and Finance. This position is responsible for a critical
division within the university, working directly with the President to accomplish
the vision and mission of the University of Memphis to become one of America’s great
metropolitan research universities. The Vice President will serve on the President’s
Council, along with the Provost, four other Vice Presidents, and the Athletic Director.
The Division of Business and Finance is responsible for the management of University
fiscal, physical, and human resources within a University annual operating budget
of nearly $400 million. He/she will be responsible for over 500 employees in finance,
human resources, administrative and auxiliary services, public safety, campus planning

The University of Memphis, a member of the Tennessee Board of Regents System, is a
Carnegie Doctoral/Research-Extensive University with six colleges and three professional
schools. The University enrolls a diverse population, approximately 21,000 students,
5,000 of whom are enrolled in graduate programs. Our faculty and staff number approximately
2,600.
Qualified applicants will possess an understanding of financial, accounting and business
operations, information systems and current practices and trends in human resources
and higher education. He/she must possess excellent communication skills and the ability
to represent the University well, and must be able to work effectively with diverse
constituencies within and outside the University. We are seeking an innovative leader
with personal integrity, sound professional reputation, a collegial management style,
and the judgment and ability to make independent decisions. A degree in business administration,
management or a related field is required. Qualified applicants will have records
of effective management and demonstrated achievement in increasingly responsible positions,
preferably in higher education.
Compensation is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. The University of
Memphis also offers an attractive benefits package. The start date is negotiable,
although preferably before January 2009.
