Student Life provides programs, services and facilities centered on enhancing the learning experience of students. Recognizing the diversity of the student population, the University of Memphis accomplishes this by offering a wide variety of options for on-campus residence halls and apartments for both single and married students, food service and dining hall programs, a modern recreation center with programs for students, more than 170 student organizations and a variety of leadership development and community service opportunities.
A new University Center will become the center of campus life when it opens in fall 2009. The $45 million facility will house two dining facilities, including an “after hours” restaurant and food court, an outdoor terrace, movie theatre, meeting spaces, banquet facilities, offices for student organizations, a 24-hour computer lab, mail services, a copy center and other amenities, all designed to make campus life enjoyable for students. The 168,000 square foot facility will span three stories.
For those who enjoy intramural and club sports, the U of M offers a variety of them, including bowling, table tennis, Frisbee, golf, tennis, volleyball, racquetball, dodge ball, kickball, basketball and flag football.
Fraternities and sororities are an integral part of student life at Memphis. Greek members are visible throughout the campus, holding membership and leadership positions in campus organizations and honors societies. Perhaps the greatest benefits of joining the Greek community are the diverse and lasting social networks, academic support and positive group experiences. Greek life allows students to make close friendships and be part of the largest group on the U of M campus.
