Jazz Week

The School of Music Kicks Off Jazz Week At The University of Memphis

Jazz WeekIt is time for Jazz Week 2017, presented by the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music. The week-long event will be held on the University of Memphis main campus from February 28th through March 4th.

Jazz Week features jazz performances by the School of Music's student and faculty musicians performing in combos, ensembles, and big bands as well as performing with special guest jazz artists.

This year's guest artists are trombone player Chris Buckholz on Wednesday, March 1st and trumpeter and composer Bill Mobley on Saturday, March 4th.

Jazz Combos will play on Tuesday, February 28th and Jazz Singers play on Wednesday, March 1st. The U of M Faculty Jazz Ensemble holds its performance on Thursday, March 2nd while Jazz Ensemble II performs on Friday, March 3rd.

Finally, the Southern Comfort Jazz Orchestra with Bill Mobley perform on Saturday, March 4th.

All concerts take place in the Harris Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. Events on February 28th thru March 3rd are free.

However, general admission for the Southern Jazz Orchestra performance on March 4th is $15 and seniors pay $10. It is open and free to any University of Memphis students, faculty, and staff who want to attend the event.
