Engineering Alumni Chapter

On Tuesday, April 16, the Herff College of Engineering Alumni Chapter will present its Outstanding Alumni Awards at the Herff College of Engineering's 25th Annual Awards Banquet, located at the U of M Holiday Inn at 6:30 pm. The Chapter will honor Arif Shakeei (BSME '77), former CEO of Western Digital Corporation. The Chapter will hold a silent auction before the dinner to benefit its book scholarship fund.

The Engineering Alumni Chapter is now accepting applications for its Book Scholarship. All current Herff College juniors and seniors are invited to apply. The deadline is 12 noon on Friday, April 26. CLICK HERE to download an application.

UMAR is now accepting applications for its Scholarship. The one-time award of $1,000 for the academic year is presented to a full-time undergraduate enrolled at the University that has completed at least two full years of study with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25. The deadline for applications is Monday, April 22. Click here to learn more and download the application.

The UMAR Garden Club will meet on Tuesday, April 23, at the home of Tanya Groves to listen to Master Gardener Jessica Morris speak about exotic plants, followed by lunch at the Wisteria Tea Room. Celebrate Wolf River Dayz on Friday, April 26, at 10 am. In commemoration of Arbor Day, UMAR will partake in a guided tour of at the Wolf River Conservancy Boardwalk at Rossville, TN. Director of Education for the organization, Cathy Justis, will lead the walk; lunch on your own will follow at Wolf River Café. If you would like to carpool, please meet at the Alumni Center at 8:30 AM for an 8:45 AM departure. Please contact or 901/678-1333 to RSVP by April 22.

On the first Tuesday of each month, the UMAR Breakfast Bunch gathers at 9 am for a casual breakfast at the Perkins Restaurant & Bakery located in the Eastgate Shopping Center, at 5112 Park Avenue. The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 7. All UMAR members and U of M retirees are welcome. The cost of breakfast is on your own.

UMAR will hosts its annual Spring Picnic on Sunday, May 19, at 3 pm at the home of Agnes Stark. There will be a wine tasting (cost is $2 per person) and a silent auction benefiting the UMAR Scholarship Fund. Main dishes and beverages will be provided by UMAR, so guests are asked to bring a dish according to last name: A-E bring fruit, cheese or dessert / F-L bring bread / M & N bring salads and / O-Z bring a vegetable or side dish. Enjoy breakfast with the UMAR Book Club on Tuesday, May 28 at 11 am at Brother Juniper's before discussing this month's literary work, Men of Fire: Grant, Forrest and the Campaign That Decided the Civil War by Jack Hurst. The book club meets on the fourth Tuesday of every other month.

The CEHHS Alumni Chapter will host its annual Hall of Fame Reception & Induction Ceremony at the Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway Hall of Fame on Tuesday, April 23, at 6:00 pm. Support the College and its 100+ year history, as they honor exceptional faculty and alumni including the 2013 Inductees:

The IMBA Alumni Club will host its annual i2i: Union and Reunion on Thursday, April 25, at 6 pm in The Tower Room of Clark Tower. Law Alumni Chapter

The Law Alumni Chapter will co-host the Law Week Launch Party, a gathering of local legal organizations, on Friday, April 26, from 5 to 7 pm in Court Square. This free event will feature food by the BBQ Shop and music by WALRUS. Young Alumni

MPA Alumni Club
On Tuesday, May 7, at 11:30 am in the University Center, the MPA Club will host a luncheon recognizing the 2013 Pi Alpha Alpha inductees and honoring students in the Division of Public and Nonprofit Administration. There will be a discussion panel including Anna Kathryn Word, Chief Fund Development Officer at the Junior League of Memphis, Dorcas Young, Administrator of the Shelby County Ryan White program, and Eva Mosby, Vice President of Workforce Development at BRIDGES. Hispanic Alumni Council

The Hispanic Alumni Council’s (HAC) next board meeting will be Wednesday, May 29 at 5:30 p.m at the Alumni Center on 635 Normal Street. This board meeting is open to all who express an interest in the Hispanic Alumni Council and its initiative to build and connect a network of Hispanic alumni from the University of Memphis and to foster scholarships for students at the University of Memphis.
