Maria Ferguson
M.A. in Art History, 2016
Maria Ferguson came to the university of Memphis after receiving her B.A. in Art with
an emphasis in Photography from Penn State University in 2004. She graduated from
the University of Memphis in 2016 with a Masters of Arts in Art History and a Certificate
in Museum Studies. Her thesis is titled, "Silent Resistance: The History and Resonance
of 19th Century Photographs of Native Americans." While in graduate school, Maria
worked as Graduate Teaching Assistant, and presented papers at the 2014 and 2015 Southeastern
College Art Conferences. She also completed internships with the Davies Manor Plantation
and the C.H. Nash Museum at Chucalissa. Maria was hired as a Museum Assistant with
the Davies Manor Plantation after her internship, and has been involved in the execution
of a number of projects, including planning and designing seasonal exhibitions in
the manor house and developing a traveling trunk for local elementary schools. Maria's
areas interests in Art History include the History of Photography, American Art, and
Modern/Contemporary Art.
