The Department of Business Information and Technology offers a number of certificate and degree programs. All certificate programs may be completed in tandem with a degree program.

Degree Programs

Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with major in Business Information and Technology

The undergraduate (BBA) degree with a major in BIT has as its goal to produce graduates who are able to function in entry-level information systems positions and who have the basis for continued career growth. Specific BIT courses included in the undergraduate program cover topics such as programming languages, technology involved in computer hardware and system software, methods of analyzing and developing business systems, data management techniques, networking and telecommunications technology, and the management of an entire organization's information resources.

Accelerated BBA/MS – Information Systems

The Department of BIT offers an Accelerated BBA/MS program to outstanding undergraduate majors in Business Information & Technology (B.B.A.). Students accepted into the program may begin coursework for the M.S. in Information Systems and/or a 4-course Graduate Certificate during their senior year. Students interested in this accelerated program are encouraged to begin planning for it early in their undergraduate careers, in consultation with both their undergraduate advisor and the M.S. Coordinator of the Department of Business Information & Technology.

Master of Science (formerly MSBA in MIS) in Information Systems stem

The MSIS (formerly MSBA in MIS) degree provides its students with courses that contain the core content of all information systems programs, with the content directed toward managerial-level activities. Courses often use team activities, case studies, and real-world projects to focus on the types of knowledge and skills needed for effective management of an organization's computer and communications technologies and its information resources. Specific BIT courses used as a basis for this program include topics such as business analytics, database systems, information assurance, systems analysis and design, business intelligence, data communications and networks, computer hardware and system software, and information systems management and planning.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Business Administration with concentration in Business Information and Technology

The Ph.D. degree with a concentration in BIT focuses primarily on the preparation of new college/university-level faculty, specifically targeting the teaching and research expectations for faculty. Students review the core topics in information systems, with an emphasis on current research related to those topics. Their basic BIT courses typically contain components in which students review the related research and/or conduct related research and make presentations of results. Specific BIT courses used as a basis for this program include topics such as business analytics, systems analysis and design, business intelligence, computer and network security, and information systems management and planning. Students in this program also take seven courses specifically related to research methodology, as well as two seminar courses in research specifically related to the field of information systems.

Certificate Programs

Graduate Certificate Program in Data Analytics for Technology

This certificate prepares Data Analysts, Data Scientist and Technical Project Leaders to use current tools and techniques of data analytics using programming languages like R and Python, and get familiar with processes of business intelligence, analytics, and big data. With their newly acquired skills, they can effectively contribute to industry analytics efforts with a specific emphasis in the integration of data from a variety of business processes and sources. The student will learn how to detect data patterns, fix data anomalies and resolve technical challenges in data resulting in better insights into business problems.

Graduate Certificate Program in Data Analytics for Management

The field of data analytics, also described as business intelligence, is exploding in all segments of the business landscape. Tools and techniques of data mining, text mining, web mining, and artificial intelligence, combined with the use of "big data" are driving marketing, finance, economics, and virtually all other aspects of business to new heights. This certificate prepares the Business Analyst, Manager and the Project Leader to learn the language and fundamentals of mathematical modeling, artificial intelligence and data engagement metrics from structured and unstructured data sources for effectiveness measurement to determine a successful business strategy.

Graduate Certificate Program in Business Information Assurance

The graduate certificate program in Business Information Assurance (BIA) prepares students to perform critical activities needed to properly manage an organization's assets related to a wide range of information security/privacy threats. Training related to effective managerial methodologies has become increasingly important in planning for possible breaches of security and handling resulting problems.

Graduate Certificate Program in Software Testing

The graduate certificate program in Software testing prepares students for challenges in software testing. They develop the skills to be able to manage and participate in testing at all stages of software development process.

Graduate Certificate Program in Business Project Management

The graduate certificate program in Business Project Management prepares individuals for project management team work and to be project managers with specific emphasis on the integration of information systems and business processes.
