Sexual assault and rape occur on college campuses. Studies show that at least 1 in
4 college women will be the victim of a sexual assault during her academic career.
At least 80% of all sexual assaults are committed by an acquaintance of the victim.
The Counseling Center provides support to students who experience this type of violence.
A sexually traumatized student may feel/experience:
- Range of emotions including fear, anger, rage, anxiety, sadness, shock, disbelief,
confusion, humiliation, mistrust, and sometimes dissassociation or the appearance
of no emotion (being detached).
- Physical sensations including feeling cold, faint, nauseous.
- Range of behaviors including crying, yelling, smiling, or possibly calmness.
- Pain or irritation where the attacker touched or hurt them and/or general soreness
