About Joanne Gikas

Currently the Associate Dean of the College of Professional & Liberal Studies, Dr. Joanne Gikas has also worked in the roles of Assistant Dean and Interim Dean for the college. As Interim Dean, Dr. Gikas worked to implement the BS in Commercial Aviation and the Doctor of Liberal Studies, the third doctorate of its nature in the US. During her time in the college, Dr. Gikas has helped guide both undergraduate and graduate programs, worked with college faculty and staff to meet the learning needs of the students in the College, many of whom are adult learners with unique needs. 

Prior to her work with the College, Dr. Gikas was Director of Undergraduate Programs for the Regents Online Campus Collaborative (now TN eCampus) in Nashville, TN and utilized her experience in instructional design to assist UofM faculty as they developed many of our fully online programs, which helped spearhead UofM Global.

Dr. Gikas earned her doctorate in Instructional Design & Technology and her research interests include effective instructional design strategies for online, hybrid and face to face; mobile learning; technology integration; and gaming and simulation for the learning environment.
