Certificate in Writing Studies

The graduate certificate program provides training to students interested in rhetoric, composition, the teaching of writing, and/or technical communication. The 15 credit-hour program provides students with an opportunity to earn a credential in a growing area of English studies that has been increasing in demand, especially in areas of post-secondary first-year writing programs, engineering writing programs, and professional writing programs.

Program Notes:
  • The certificate program requires completion of fifteen (15) credit hours
  • Please see the Graduate Catalog for specific program requirements
  • Up to 12 credit hours from the certificate program may count toward the MA, MFA, or PhD degrees. It is expected that many already-admitted students will earn the certificate on their way to their degrees. Such students wishing to earn the Certificate must apply to the Graduate School using the Change of Status form.
