About the Integrated Microscopy Center at the University of Memphis Announcements

Welcome to The University of Memphis Integrated Microscopy Center (IMC)
 
The IMC is a fee-for-service, shared research facility offering high-end instrumentation, technical support, and education to the University of Memphis research community, as well as to other regional academic institutions and industries. This core facility is integrated in that it serves the different scientific disciplines at the University of Memphis, including Chemistry, Geology, Life Sciences, Physics, as well as the different Engineering fields. This integration is designed to foster interdisciplinary collaborations as well as academic and industrial partnerships. The IMC is the University’s primary shared, core research facility and reports administratively to the Office of the Vice-Provost for Research.
 
           The staff at the IMC offers expertise in the following areas:
 
 1) Light Microscopy

 2) Tissue Processing for Histology

 3) Electron Microscopy

 5) Materials Science Microfabrication

6) Materials Surface Characterization

The IMC staff consists of a Director, a Laboratory Coordinator, a Materials Science Laboratory Manager, and a Histology Research Technician. Each staff member is a highly trained expert in one or more of the instrumentation techniques listed above. Their mission is to provide technical expertise, consultation, training and education to researchers, students and to other academic and industrial partnerships. The IMC staff will also prepare and analyze samples for interested parties.

October 22, 2013: Began updating the Instrumentation page and will be under construction until the end of November.
October 9, 2013: Ms. Lou Boykins, the IMC coordinator, received a 15 years of service celebration award. Congratulations, Ms. Boykins, for your hard work and dedication during these years.
September 9, 2013: Drs Skalli (PI), Bumgartner (co-PI), Lindner (co-PI), Larsen (co-PI), Mishra (co-PI) were awarded an NSF Major Research Instrumentation grant for the acquisition of a field-emission scanning electron microscope.
July 15, 2013: The IMC hired Ms. Lauren Thompson, who is responsible for the operation of the Histology lab and Fluorescence microscopes.
May 29, 2013: Opening of a Materials Science Laboratory which  includes a class 1000 clean room, an AJA Orion deposition unit/sputtering system/thermal evaporator, a mask aligner/exposure system (Tamarack 152), wire bonder, spin coater, X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS). Dr. Felio Perez, a Physics and Materials Science PhD, is responsible for the operation of the Materials Science Laboratory and can be contacted at: fperez@memphis.edu
