About Prof. Terris "TK" King

Terris “TK” King’s voice has been heard across the airwaves of the city of Memphis for the past 26 years. Having worked in both radio and television news, TK found radio to be a perfect fit. She began her radio career at Clear Channel in 1995 as a co-host of the morning show on WHRK-K97. After several years at WHRK she wanted to try her hand at news reporting. TK made the transition to NewsRadio600 where she conducted interviews and produced stories about local events. At the same time, TK also worked the news assignment desk at ABC 24/UPN 30. While being inside a newsroom was exciting, TK found herself missing the rich culture of music. In 2002, TK accepted a position as the morning show host at Flinn Broadcasting’s KXHT Hot 107.1 here in Memphis. At Hot 107.1 TK commanded the airwaves with poise, humor, and a fearless mother-like spirit that warmed the hearts of thousands of listeners.

TK is a lifelong Memphian whose voice can still be heard on numerous radio stations as she provides voiceover work and audio production for many companies and organizations. TK’s passion for radio will be passed down to her University of Memphis radio broadcasting students as she teaches them how to use digital technology to produce rich audio content that will keep their diverse audiences fully engaged. Students have a chance to hone their skills and receive hands-on experience on the all-new student-led online radio station, The ROAR. The ROAR launched in the Fall of 2021 and showcased a wide variety of music, drama, news, sports, and storytelling. As an Instructor and Coordinator of student radio at the University of Memphis, TK will also serve as the liaison in the partnership between WYXR 91.7 FM and the Daily Memphian to assist them in providing maximum engagement for University of Memphis students. TK is really excited to embark on this journey of launching the online University of Memphis radio station, The ROAR, and even more excited to be a part of shaping the next generation of broadcasters.
