Creatorspace

Anyone can visit the sandbox. 1st Floor Creatorspace in McWherter Library on UofM's main campus. At this time, equipment and computers are available for UofM student and employee use. We are working on a membership plan for approved community members.

The Creatorspace has several spaces:

  • Tech Pods: Each piece of permanent technology has a reservable computer and workspace. Get more details below.
  • Workshop/Demo Space: 12 computers and a large presenter-computer for hosting workshops or demos.
  • Film Screening Space: A reservable TV and couch to screen films.
  • Video Game Space: First-come, first-served TV and comfortable seating to play video games.
  • Collaboration Space: First-come, first-served open tables and chairs for collaborative projects.

Tech Pods

  • 3D Printers: Three Makerbot 3D printers connected to Windows OS desktop computers.
    • Filament is available at no cost, or you can get your own approved.
    • Must complete the Beginner 3D Printer Orientation before reservation or use.
    • Check out an extruder to use.
  • Cricut Paper & Vinyl Cutter: One Cricut paper & vinyl cutter connected to Windows OS desktop computer.
    • Materials are not provided; check Cricut's website for approved materials.
    • Must complete the Cricut Orientation before reservation or use.
    • Check out the mats and toolkit to use.
  • Sewing Machine: One Brother ST371HD sewing machine.
    • Materials are not provided; black and white thread and bobbins are provided.
    • Check out the pedal to use.
  • MIDI Piano Keyboard: One Alesis 49-key piano keyboard connected to Windows OS desktop computer.
    • Check out the cord and headphones to use.
  • Large Digital Art Tablet: One Wacom Intuos Pro digital graphic drawing tablet connected to Windows OS desktop computer with Adobe Suite.
    • Check out the stylus to use.
  • Glowforge Laser Cutter: One Glowforge Laser Cutter connected to Windows OS desktop computer.

Video Studio

In order to reserve and use the Video Studio, you must take an online orientation. Once you complete the Video Studio Orientation and sign the electronic waiver, it may take up to 48 hours for you to be approved in the Libraries system to reserve the Video Studio.

Once you're approved to use the 2nd Floor Video Studio, make a reservation.

Speech recording permitted; no instruments or singing permitted in the Video Studio. Check out microphones and audio recorders to take out of McWherter Library or the Music Library if you need to record music. If library staff receive noise complaints from your recording session, you may not be permitted to reserve and use the Video Studio.

Audio Studio

McWherter Library's 3rd Floor Audio Studio is still under development. The studio should be available for UofM student and employee use by August 2019.

In order to reserve and use the Audio Studio, you must take an online orientation. Once you complete the Audio Studio Orientation and sign the electronic waiver, it may take up to 48 hours for you to be approved in the Libraries system to reserve the Audio Studio.

  • 2 Rode NT1A studio microphones with pop shields
  • 2 Tonor studio microphones with pop shields
  • 4 sets of over-the-ear headphones
  • Four-channel stereo headphone amplifier

Presentation Practice Studio

In order to reserve and use the 4th Floor Presentation Practice Studio in McWherter Library, you must take an online orientation. Once you complete the Presentation Practice Studio Orientation and sign the electronic waiver at the end of the orientation, it may take up to 48 hours for you to be approved in the Libraries system to reserve the Presentation Practice Studio.

Once you're approved to use the 4th Floor Presentation Practice Studio, make a reservation.

Speech recording permitted; no instruments or singing permitted in the Presentation Practice Studio. Check out microphones and audio recorders to take out of McWherter Library or the Music Library if you need to record music. If library staff receive noise complaints from your recording session, you may not be permitted to reserve and use the Presentation Practice Studio.

Equipment in the Presentation Practice Studio:

  • Network desktop loaded with Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Audacity, Trelby, SlideDog, Blender, 123Design, Inkscape.
  • 2 sets of over-the-ear headphones
  • Green, white, and black backdrops
  • Presentation projection screen (mini projector available to check out)
  • Whiteboard and dry erase markers
  • 2 umbrella lights and 2 LED fill lights
  • Tripods
