Music Industry

We offer a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Industry with concentrations in Music Business or Recording Technology. The degree is one of a small number of comprehensive music industry programs fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. Created in 1981, the Music Business and Recording Technology programs are structured to prepare a marketable student for successful work in today's dynamic music industry.

Contemporary on-campus production facilities include a comprehensive multi-track recording studio outfitted with 5.1 high resolution recording and mixing technologies, a digital audio workstation suite, electronic music lab, and a multi-channel high resolution mixing suite. In addition to the audio recording facilities, students work in digital art, writing, and electronic technologies areas and enjoy generous access to these labs where "hands-on" training is emphasized.

Music Industry majors are encouraged to become active in University productions. The Memphis arts community offers diverse cultural opportunities and a rich assortment of internship possibilities.

UofM students have won national scholarship competitions sponsored by organizations such as the National Association of Jazz Educators, Downbeat Magazine, and the Audio Engineering Society. They have also won the prestigious NARAS Collegiate Grammy® Music Competition. Scholarship funds are available for exceptional students, and many states offer financial assistance through the Academic Common Market program.
