Summer and Community Programs
Every summer middle and high school students, college students and college graduates
from the region and across the country come the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music for
unique learning experiences. As they work with our faculty and renowned guest artists,
they learn new techniques, gain experience, expand their imagination and leave us
equipped to succeed. Our programs offer residential and non-residential options.
Memphis Music Camp
The University of Memphis Music Camp is a six-day camp for middle and high school choir, band, and orchestra students. Participants work with nationally renowned conductors, the Rudi E; Scheidt School of music faculty and some of the Mid-South’s most accomplished musicians and teachers.
Students at the University of Memphis Music Camp are immersed in an inspiring and encouraging environment where they will participate in large ensembles, chamber ensembles, master classes, and explore other areas of their artistic discipline. In the evenings, students mingle and make new friends through the many supervised activities provided by our outgoing and caring counselor staff.
Orff Summer Institute
The institute provides the unique opportunity for Orff training in the home of BBQ and the blues! The University of Memphis Orff Summer Institute is one of the longest operating Orff Certification Programs in the country. Participants learn to engage their students in joyful music making and dance, while developing supportive connections with instructors and colleagues in this two-week teacher education course. Our engaging and accomplished faculty and guest artists will ake this an educational, inspiring, and transformative experience.
