University of Memphis Community Clarinet Festival

The 2022 University of Memphis Community Clarinet Festival is a free, fun and unique musical experience sponsored by the University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music.  

Open to clarinetists of all ages are invited to enjoy a day full of:

  • Classes for all levels of All-West Clarinet Audition Music (middle and high school)

  • Performance by Dr. Robyn Jones and guest teachers, Amy Chambers, Taneea Hull and Dr. Cecilia Kang (LSU)

  • "A Day in the Life": members of the University of Memphis clarinet studio will perform and talk about what it's like to pursue music in college

  • Breakout sessions on various topics such as: reed care, mindfulness for musicians and auxiliary instruments (e-flat, bass clarinet)

  • Clarinet choir reading session and informal performance, followed by a reception

  • 8-8:30 AM: Check-in at the Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center (SFPAC), 3800 Central Ave., Memphis, TN 38111
  • 8:30-9:15- AM: Group warm-up session, SFPAC - Room 1215 (make sure to bring your clarinet!!)
  • 9:30-10:15 AM: Meet the Mentors: Recital and Introductions, SFPAC - Room 1215  (performance and introductions)
  • 10:30 AM-Noon: All-West Prep Classes
    • Bass clarinet with Amy Chambers, SFPAC - Room 1158
    • Middle school with Taneea Hull, SFPAC - Room 1204
    • 9th + 10th grade with Dr. Cecilia Kang, SFPAC - Room 2113
    • 11th + 12th grade with Dr. Robyn Jones, SFPAC - Room 1215
  • Noon-1 PM: Lunch, pizza will be served in the SFPAC lobby
  • 1-2 PM: Student Recital + Day in the Life, SFPAC - Room 1215
    Meet current University of Memphis clarinet students as they perform and talk about what it's like to be a musician in college. Bring your questions!

Guests attending the Community Clarinet Festival have multiple parking options. View our parking map to plan your visit.

General Parking Lot (Lot 44 + 46): There is a general parking lot located around the Scheidt Center with entrances on both Central Ave. and Poplar Ave. 
Handicap Parking: There are several spaces located near the east and west entrances of the Scheidt Center.
