Dr. Strong named associate editor of journal

Associate Professor Dr. Genae Strong was named associate editor of the Journal of Human Lactation, the official journal of the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) at the its annual general meeting in July.

The ILCA is the member association for the International Board Certified Lactation Consultants® (IBCLC®) and other healthcare professionals who care for breastfeeding families. ILCA membership is open to all who support and promote breastfeeding. 

Dr. Strong has gained a reputation as one of the foremost experts and supporters of lactation for mothers and families. Focused on breastfeeding education, she creates innovative curriculum to address well-known inadequacies among pre-licensure nursing students known to hinder development and deliver of competent nursing care. In honor of her teaching excellence, she was recently named one of 20 Outstanding Professors of Women's Health Nursing by nursingpractitionerschools.com.

Recently, the Tennessee Health Department awarded Dr. Strong, PI, a three-year, $442,600 Project Diabetes grant for a Lactation Support Program designed to minimize separation of mothers and infants during employment and/or education and protect, support, sustain and optimize the health and well-being of lactating women and their infants. 

Dr. Strong has 24+ years of experience supporting breastfeeding women through teaching, research and service. She is president of the Memphis Area Lactation Consultant Association (MALCA) and is academic chair of the Shelby county Breastfeeding Coalition (SCBC). She is also an international speaker and author on the field of lactation.
